Conceived by renowned architect Shyam Khandekar, the design harmoniously integrates building heights and color palettes, while beautifully incorporating English gardens along Statenlaan. For an in-depth exploration of these concepts, refer to the publication Designing for Sustainability through Upcycling, published by nai010 in 2020.<\/p>\n<p>Within this thoughtfully designed block, approximately 220 apartments have been created, with over half featuring compact yet efficient layouts of 60 m\u00b2. These smaller units are accessed through a central corridor, allowing for expansive facades that invite abundant natural light. The clever use of reflection around the inner corridor results in a visually appealing building volume, enhancing both aesthetic appeal and cost-effectiveness. Many of the apartments overlook a communal inner garden, which is artfully perched on top of a parking garage. This garden, with its gentle slopes, provides sufficient space for tree planting, creating a green oasis in the heart of the development. The larger apartments enjoy scenic views over Statenlaan and the educational boulevard.<\/p>\n<p>The facades along Statenlaan and the educational boulevard are distinct, each reflecting the unique character of their respective streets. The side facades elegantly bridge these architectural styles, creating a subtle and inviting transition. Crafted from a harmonious blend of prefabricated elements including sleek parapet panels, inviting balconies, and striking facade piers, the building showcases modern design at its best. The use of white concrete, Embellished with patterned stone strips, enhances its contemporary appeal, while the solid sections of half-brick masonry provide warmth and texture. On Statenlaan, the facade is dominated by light, airy white prefabricated elements, featuring a rhythm of large balconies that offer a welcoming and open feel. In contrast, the facade along the educational boulevard incorporates rich masonry and loggias, giving it a more solid and grounded presence that complements the surrounding architecture.<\/p>\n<p>In essence, this project embodies a thoughtful blend of modern living, sustainability, and community, creating a desirable environment for both residents and visitors.
