Plan T is a striking new addition to the evolving Spoorzone in Tilburg, a vibrant business hub situated at the newly designed station square. This dynamic redevelopment of the former Dutch Railways workshops pays homage to the site\u2019s industrial roots with a bold, modern design. At the heart of the building\u2019s identity is the use of the iconic basket arch, a nod to the historic Koepelhal, a landmark structure that defines the beginning of the Spoorzone. This arching form repeats throughout the design appearing in the building\u2019s cross-sections, gable ends, dormers, windows, arcade, and entrance creating a cohesive architectural rhythm that binds the entire structure together. It mirrors the natural fractal geometry seen in nature, where the same form appears at multiple scales, reinforcing the building\u2019s design integrity.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The expansive, industrial-style windows not only flood the interior with natural light but also evoke the rugged charm of the site’s past through their grand proportions and strong profiles. The construction utilizes prefabricated techniques, with load-bearing sandwich panels and a column structure. The intelligent profiling of the brickwork seamlessly hides the construction joints\u2014the horizontal lines vanish into recessed layers, while vertical seams are tucked away behind rainwater pipes, maintaining a clean and unified facade.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The lower two floors feature traditional masonry, with deeply recessed windows and two-story high openings that form an arcade-like base. This design enhances the accessibility and openness of the ground floor, which houses lively caf\u00e9s and restaurants. Inside, a captivating seven-story atrium runs through the core of the building, acting as a lightwell that fills the interior with daylight, like a beacon guiding visitors into its heart.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Plan T is fully electric and proudly holds a BREEAM “Very Good” certification, achieved in part through innovative floating climate ceilings. These ceilings leave elements of the building\u2019s structure and piping visible, amplifying the raw industrial aesthetic. The building\u2019s curved arches also evoke the “Plan T” train sets that were designed and built on this very site in the 1960s, a nostalgic nod to the trains that shaped the image of the Dutch Railways for decades.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

In this way, Plan T stands as more than just a modern building, it\u2019s a new architectural landmark for Tilburg\u2019s station square, deeply rooted in the site\u2019s industrial heritage while The King's Bastion project is a striking example of a modern archi\u00adtectural intervention in a historica! setting. Located at Queensway Road 4 in Gibraltar, the project was comple\u00adted in 2007, breathing new life into a once-abandoned and dilapidated fort that had been repurposed as a power generating station. The urban plan\u00adning concept and architectural design tor this intervention were developed by Ritzen Architecten, commissioned by Credo Espana and the Montagu Group, as part of the redevelopment of the Mid Town District. A con\u00adtemporary addition, described as a
\"silver jewelry box\" made of stainless steel, was placed in the courtyard. This sleek, modern structure stands on elegant legs of polished compo\u00adsite concrete, adding a sense of light\u00adness and refinement to the robust surroundings.
One of the key features of the design is the glass orangery, a transparent structure that connects the old and new parts. lt allows daylight to flood into the space, illuminating the stone walls of the bastion and enhancing the overall atmosphere. The King's Bastion now serves as a leisure center with various entertainment fa\u00adcilities, including two cinemas and an ice skating rink inside the silver box. The courtyard houses a bowling center, while additional amenities such as a nightclub, restaurant, and caf\u00e9 are located on the ground and first floors of the bastion.
Since its opening, the renovated King's Bastion has become a popular destination tor both locals and tou\u00adrists, serving as a vibrant cultural and entertainment center in Gibraltar.
