Description
Hemelrijk volkel is a bungalow park proposal with approximately 150lodges and a facility building designed in the dutch peatlands, on behalf of the Derks family (owners of Billybird park) in collaboration with Landal greenparks. What was very important to our client was the presence of a warm, trustworthy, familiar atmosphere, to be able to get that ‘home feeling’ and belonging, which is one of the main points we focused on. Through our proposed masterplan we create a diverse landscaped environment in which the different typologies of the lodges merge with the surrounding nature and co-exist in harmony offering the right balance between connection and disconnection, togetherness and solitude. Putting a lot of emphasis on the landscape design, we preserved the existing water areas and also planted the southern part of the site with a forest structure of mixed trees (including pine, birch, and oak trees) creating this way a new ecological connection zone but also a buffer for the existing roads. Furthermore we created some landscape rooms in between the forest and water areas, that include sand ridges, fens and open heath to be able to enhance the characteristics of the existing peel and enrich the diversity of the natural surroundings. The proposed lodges were divided into 3 different categories: 1.Forest lodges (which were spread in the forest for a higher level of privacy to be able to seek a more solitary and contemplating feeling), 2. The ‘geschakeld lodges’ (which were organized in groups around a center for each landscape room, evoking that community feeling of connectedness), and 3.The water lodges (located partially on the water and partially on the ground, overlooking the lake, creating a middle feeling between isolation and integration). Our philosophy consists into being able to interconnect our designed lodges with the nature of the landscape and navigate smoothly in between them.
