Description
Heuvelplan Lieshout is a new residential complex designed close to the Heuvel area in Lieshout that includes apartments, patio homes, and catering facilities that aims to preserve and connect closely to the nature of the surroundings and revitalize the existing area, focusing especially on De Heuvel which is the central square and gathering place of the village. Our design philosophy analizing the Brabant’s warm, village-like atmosphere of Lieshout, consists in being able to give the residents a stronger feeling of belonging to the environment, a welcoming and safe atmosphere that stays in their memory and feelings and brings them closer to their inner core and identity. Our main concept in the urban proposal, is opening up our design to the close-by existing public spaces of the area (De Heuvel, Bavaria bar),making connections to them, and becoming this way part of the main social structure. For the organization of the houses, we propose the inner courtyard concept (hofjes concept) in which the houses are organized around these inner gardens that connect to the public spaces, to Prinshof courtyard and also to each-other. In this way we give emphasis to the green structure that has a stronger role in our design and that serves not only as a recreational asset but also as a binding element between the squares.
Through our design we try to maintain the warmth, history and inner qualities of the surroundings, make that authenticity part of our design process, and develop it on a newer level of human experience, in which people are not only spectators but they inseparably belong to it. We see our architecture as a storyteller, with the power to indirectly reveal the history of the area, its culture, how society works, who we are. So we arrange its choreography to tell this story in the best way possible.
